Console Wars-The outragious battle

February 16th, 2008

Despite all the advancements in the gaming industry, its still very difficult to defy the winner of the Console wars. All the advancements, all the research and all the graphic and processors breakthrough , its still not clear how to conclude the battle for the Best Gaming Console. Every console has made it clear to prove its own position to rule the market.

Sony’s Playstation 3

Sony’s Playstation started a revolution by introducing gaming Console when people used to play Video Games. They persuaded people to change their minds on “joysticks are for kids” and targeted young minds .Soon with an upgradation, Sony made it real clear that “we are going to stay in the market for a long time”.Even after Microsoft launched its XBOX 360, Sony waited and launched its hyped console Playstation3 with processors and processors which cannot be easily defined. As Microsoft had, Sony also kept secret the real technology behind their core processors and graphic processors.Sony’s Playstation3 is new selling at $399.99

Microsoft’s XBOX 360

Microsoft’s XBOX made it possible to break from the people’s mind the single monopoly of Sony on the Console market.Trying to be ahead of Sony, Microsoft smoothly launched a console right when Playstation2 were selling like hot cakes. The XBOX was introduced as a slap on Sony’s face with high speed gaming, better visuals and its own interacive XBOX Live which allows users to share scores and more game stuff online.Launching XBOX 360 was a smart move, when Sony was still deciding the number of processors to be used in the new Console.XBOX360 is now selling at $349.99
Nintendo Wii Console

Nintendo fighting all the odds with its meagre small console entered the race much late by launching Wii (pronounced V) with a different perspective of gaming. It wasn’t about processors working very fast or death defying graphics, but made it real simple with easy gameplay techniques.Nintendo created a different genre of players who like to play games with reality at its best. While Sony and Microsoft were already out with the best possible joystick, Nintendo created a easy to use joystick which was user friendly.Though the “remote control” like joystick had earlier bad critic reviews, but later the fact that this joystick didn’t need brains to learn to use people started buying these consoles rapidly.Wii sells at $249.99(lowest amongst all).

Nintendo Wii’s Joystick

Its is now predicted that 2008 would be a great year for Nintendo as the sales would touch 30 million units from 18.2million units last year 2007.Microsoft’s XBOX 360 is expected to give 25 million units while Sony lags behind by having just 10million units sold last year 2007.Its just common sense why Nintendo would take the Console war lead, with easy joysticks which respond to hand gestures and real gameplay….all this in one low cost console..Phew!! why shouldn’t it sell. But matter the situation might change till year 2010.

2010 might be a year for Sony as gamers as always would love high end graphics with the trusted name of Sony and great games coming out.Till then Nintendo and Microsoft can enjoy their part of joy and success with their consoles winning at the charts.

Till then Happy Gaming!!!

Yahoo says "No,No" to Microsoft's bid.

February 12th, 2008

Its the time for Microsoft to think and re-think why Yahoo rejected the deal which could be the biggest acquisition on Internet.Yahoo Inc. rejected the bid stating the bid to be too low. According to Yahoo, Microsoft has “undervalued Yahoo” by giving this “small” bid.It did not clearly state the amount expected but clearly stated, the global stand, 500 million users base and the growing advertising platform.

Yahoo rejects Mictosoft bid!!!!

Microsoft might reconsider and raise the bid, as this takeover could change Microsoft’s position completely globally. Its been assumed Microsoft might take the chance of raising the bid considering all these factors as they are presently seeking help from investors and Yahoo shareholders to know how much the bid should be raised and bid and force Yahoo to make a friendly deal as soon as possible.

Yahoo might have considered Google’s position and its interference in this deal for this rejection.Or even Yahoo could be just playing with Microsoft to just raise the bid. This might be a risky step for Yahoo but no one knows what going on both the companies’ Analyst team.

Microsoft's answer to upset Windows Vista users

February 10th, 2008

Soon after Microsoft announced it delayed release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1, there was a sudden upset from Vista users. Microsoft immediately responded to this wide disappointment and released a beta Windows Vista Service Pack Release To Manufacture(RTM) which can be downloaded by all Vista beta testers through Windows Update.

This Service Pack in available in few languages and can be downloaded through Windows Update once they follow a simple procedure. They are supposed to provide a feedback after their through use. For volume license based users its a boon as Microsoft is providing them with this Service Pack. The x86 and x64 DVD images of Windows Vista with SP1 slipstreamed are now available to customers with volume licensing agreements.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for Volume Licenses.

This service pack is available for both Windows x86 as well as x64 versions. It would have been really easy for all the tester if Microsoft had provided a easy link to download the Service Pack instead of Windows Update.Maybe this could be the first step taken by Microsoft to avoid piracy.

Intel flashes 2 billion transistor processor!!!

February 7th, 2008

Intel’s most hard working team has brought back Itanium in life by introducing the world’s first 2 billion transistor processor. This new 65nm chip is the first quad-core processor of the Itanium family , code named “Tukwila“.After some googling I learned Tukwila is the name of a place in Washington.

Tukwila

Back to processor,Tukwila is supposed to be the world’s biggest microprocessor ever made with the die size of 21.5×32.5mm2, giving the speed of up to 2GHz on 170W of power on the first run.The Tukwila has four cores each of which is capable of executing two threads at once for a total of 8 simultaneous threads per socket. The cores are surrounded by a sea of L2 cache—30MB to be exact.Vow,at that much cache I just imagine what all I can do.Sure enough access a vast database with this cache would be very very smooth.

Along with Tukwila Intel is also set a benchmark for itself, Quickpath formerly known as Common Systems Interconnect. The AMD Hypertransport competitor.Intel is promising peak bandwidths of up to 96GBps for processor-to-processor links, and memory bandwidths of up to 34GBps from Tukwila’s four on-die FB-DIMM channels.

This processor is due release till the end of this year.Till then just imagine the velocity of this processor.
