NVIDIA introduced a number of new mobile GPUs– the GeForce GTX 280M, GTX 260M, and GTS 160M. The new GeForce GTX 280M, GTX 260M, and GTS 160M will be NVIDIA’s highest performing notebook GPUs to date and will offer up to 50% more performance than the previous generation in addition to support for both PhysX and CUDA technologies.

[singlepic id=14 w=300 h=290 float=center]The new GeForce GTX and GTS series of notebook GPUs utilize a refined 55nm variant of NVIDIA’s G92 graphics core optimized for lower power consumption. According to the information provided by NVIDIA, the GPU provides up to 80% higher perf/mm2 than the previous gen, in addition to higher core, shader, and memory clock frequencies, and in the case of the GTX 280M a full complement of 128 shader processors. The GTX 260M and GTS 160M are outfitted with fewer active shader cores.

[singlepic id=12 w=320 h=240 float=center]

The GTX 280M features a full 128 shaders cores. The GTX 260M, however, features 112 and the GTS 160M 64. All of them feature 256-bit memory interfaces, however, and support for frame buffers up to 1GB. Check the table.

[singlepic id=13 w=320 h=240 float=center]

We expect NVIDIA to announce some design wins for all of these new mobile GPUs in the not too distant future.

X-bit labs reported “Abit May Stop Producing Motherboards“. But later Abit Denies this.

Read along to understand what exactly happened.

X-bit Labs’s new stated “Due to decreasing sales of mainboards, well-known motherboard maker Abit may quit this market in order to focus on other components of personal computers. The actual decision has not been made yet, but the parent company of Abit, Universal Scientific Industrial, may proceed with the restructuring plan if the mainboard supplier fails to demo sales increase with Intel P45-based mainboards.”

I was totally shocked reading this cause as statistics read, Abit shipped from two to three million of mainboards last year. This was all reported but, this wasn’t the situation.

Next day after this new on X-bit labs, came the news “Abit Denies Quit form Mainboard Manufacturing Business”

Abit, a division of Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) has successfully exceled their name in producing Performance Motherboards, Motherboards which are sheer for gamers to taste. And shipping 2-3 million products is something a feat for any manufacturer.

Mis communications or just Rumours the question lies still.
