Although the information isn’t as solid but, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes the PS3 is going to keep increasing its sales and that Microsoft will announce a price cut for the Xbox 360 at E3. He foresees the PS3 gaining momentum and claims Metal Gear Solid 4 will actually have a greater impact on the console’s hardware sales than Grand Theft Auto IV did. Sounds impossible to me.

Divnich also believes that Microsoft will announce a price cut at E3 next month, speculating the console could also get a new hardware SKU with added features. He claims if Microsoft does cut the price, Sony will respond with a drop of its own within two months. We’re currently gathering up 30 Helens to see what they think.

On the other Side Sony’s handheld console ‘PSP’ would see a lacking in sales as we do not see any significant PSP titles in the short-term pipeline. Moreover looking at the sales of title Iron Man for PS2, PSP was the only console not having a title in the top 10 of unit sales.

Seem a tough as well as quite and sad side for Sony. But clearly the next gen console PS3 will see some great sales and the market will show some sudden surprises by the end of this year.

I am damn sure your remember Battlefield Heroes a online cartoon FPS game to be launched by EA. Yes. The one which would be free and would be like a clone of Team Fortress 2.

The first video was just about how the game would be, rather a demo trailer on what the game would include. And some details about the character it would include. But this new video includes lot more, the customisation details, character building, war paths, strategical killing and funnier side but a part of the FPS.

The game looks amazing with all the airborne warfare and various character customisation. Watch out for more on Battlefield Heroes.

The one reason I remember I got Orange Box was Team Fortress 2 . But when I got hooked to Portal. It was marvelous, the gameplay simple, not too vivid graphics just simple and graphically good looking, Portal was made brilliantly. It was a real disappointment as it got finished too soon and the Bonus ones too died off soon.

Portal was a experimental game which worked wonders for Valve. Won loads of Awards and this experiment was successful creating revolution in gaming industry. Since, then I was waiting for any news for a Portal successor. And February I was happy to know Valve is getting ready to make Portal 2. But now the news is that Valve’s coming soon promenade has extended to next year. Yes!! Valve stated to launch it not sooner. Valve clearly stated, Portal was a revolutionary game, and the successor shouldn’t be just color change with some added features. Portal 2 should also be revolutionary.

Seem the wait might be good. Valve as such never disappoints big time. Developing games which aren’t just good in graphics but also hit correctly in gameplay techniques.

EA is ready and set to launch Battlefield Heroes- one of a kind cartoon FPS game. The has become old owning to Valve’s Team Fortress 2 included in The Orange Box. This game looks the same as TF2 the only difference is you don’t have to shell money for it. Yes! EA is not going to charge a single penny for this game.

The game as TF2 is online multiplayer game which looks quite the same. Somewhat a mod for the old TF2. But the game is quite different. The tanks in the game looks like designed with most care and the characters seems like real players masked in the game cartoon skin.

This might be an open challenge from EA to Valve and EA might also be successful in sucking some market space from Valve for its FPS release. The official website is Battlefield Heroes.

EA recently launched a game trailer. After watching the trailer video I was really amazed by the gameplay.

The game has 6 characters each with its own cause. Like in TF2. (Further I am not going to compare the both.) The game also seems to have details regarding the character specification as it changes its dress from the tip of its Helmet to the end of its trouser stitch. The skeletal structure remains the same only the clothes change. Making it eat a little less resources in the actual gameplay. The soldier seems to have some AOE(Area Of Effect) healing which means healing to all around him for a specific distance.

The cut scenes are directed strategically giving it the Classic Battlefield feel. The game trailer reminded me of the good old World War time with the maps , planes and tanks. The game is dated to be launched this summer as stated by EA. The game would be free to download to all. But I think soon after you download the real EA will clash with some subscription fee for further enjoyable gaming time.

Now its been evident, since the launch of Apple’s iPhone, hackers have laid their dirty little hands of hacking it and make it work as they want. No doubt some really intelligent hackers must have been into creating some interactive stuff for making iPhone much more better than it is now. Finally, a developer has created a puzzle game for iPhone and iPod Touch which will soon be released. Be the first one to get the demo as soon as it launches. Join here.

So how it works? Simple, the puzzle contains triangles of different colors which are to be moved to create a common color combination. Using the touchscreen the triangles can be moved. Making the game more interesting, the triangles can be turned by titling the iPhone in the needed direction.GameSetWatch interviewed the developer.

Some excerpts of the interview:

What’s your background in the game biz as hobbyist or professional?

I have dabbled occassionaly in the professional game industry, but I do enterprise development for my day job (I write ATM software for a large bank). My largest contribution to the gaming scene was as a ROM hacker & translator (Japanese to English).

My group was called “Demiforce”, which I incorporated two years ago and is now the name I market my product under. We translated mainly NES and SNES games to English, including Final Fantasy II (NES) and Radical Dreamers (SNES). Additionally I worked on some Gameboy Color games back in the 90s, most notably a puzzle game called “Drymouth”, but unfortunately it didn’t go anywhere.

What APIs did you take advantage of to make this game, or is it fairly ‘hacked’?

The game is a native iPhone app (not a web app), and the current version requires a jailbroken iPhone to work. However, as soon as the official iPhone SDK comes out next month, I plan on porting it over to that framework. I would love to get this thing on iTunes as early as possible, hence the current media push — I need to see if anyone out there can help me get this thing shown to Apple!

How did you come up with the concept of using tilting as a gameplay mechanic in the puzzle game?

All I knew when I set out to make an iPhone game was that I wanted to make full use of the iPhone, to deliver a game experience that could never have been done until now. With its combination of multitouch and tilt, the iPhone can deliver a fundamentally different kind of game than the world has ever seen before and I think people are slowly coming to realize this.

I started by making an Excel spreadsheet, listing all the different kinds of game input methods available, such as directional, directional + buttons, directional + buttons + mouse, and mouse only. Then, I listed the natural endpoints of evolution for games for each control mechanism.

For example, Tetris I feel is a natural endpoint of directional-only gaming because it uses the keyboard’s functionality efficiently and to its fullest extent. The 2D sidescroller is a natural endpoint of directional + button gameplay, adding the concept of multitasking to the mix. FPSs are natural endpoints of keyboard and mouse gaming, and games like minesweeper and solitaire are natural endpoints for mouse-only gameplay.

I then added ‘Multitouch’, ‘Multitouch + Tilt’ entries to this list. I tried to think out of the box, thinking of what natural kind of game could be most at home using these types of control. I went through many many permutations of designs. In the end, I came up with an idea that doesn’t use multitouch, but does make use of use tilt. I was originally worried about this, but I finally relaxed a bit when I saw how simply the game was coming together.

How long did it take to make?

The idea for Trism was realized on Feb 8th, and I started coding that day in hopes of getting it shown off at GDC. I managed to get a working prototype up by the 18th, the say GDC started. From idea to prototype in 10 days — a personal best! Especially since it was my first piece of software for an Apple platform. I’m a C++ and .NET guy by trade, so learning Objective-C was a bit of a challenge, but not too bad.

I was exhausted! One night I think I slept from 5am till 8am, then I went in to work. Plus that whole week was IBR — a big party week here in San Francisco. So, I was doing binges of coding, binges of drinking, binges of coding, binges of drinking…

What are your plans for this game?

My primary goal with designing games has always been to get as many people to play it as possible. If you can make people happy with a unique creation, that’s like the best feeling on earth, you know?

From a business angle I’m looking to get this thing noticed by Apple so that I can get it out to the masses on iTunes. They haven’t released information on how little guys like me are going to be able to make that happen, so I decided to leverage the media to get noticed. Being a little guy, I’m aware some big company may come along and say ‘hey, that’s a great game, let’s take it and make it our own’ so I’m really looking to move this thing as fast as possible.

Seems the developer is pretty much confident about the game he is going to release. We just want to wait and watch what Apple does now.

Watch the game video here.

Despite all the advancements in the gaming industry, its still very difficult to defy the winner of the Console wars. All the advancements, all the research and all the graphic and processors breakthrough , its still not clear how to conclude the battle for the Best Gaming Console. Every console has made it clear to prove its own position to rule the market.

Sony’s Playstation started a revolution by introducing gaming Console when people used to play Video Games. They persuaded people to change their minds on “joysticks are for kids” and targeted young minds .Soon with an upgradation, Sony made it real clear that “we are going to stay in the market for a long time”.Even after Microsoft launched its XBOX 360, Sony waited and launched its hyped console Playstation3 with processors and processors which cannot be easily defined. As Microsoft had, Sony also kept secret the real technology behind their core processors and graphic processors.Sony’s Playstation3 is new selling at $399.99

Microsoft’s XBOX made it possible to break from the people’s mind the single monopoly of Sony on the Console market.Trying to be ahead of Sony, Microsoft smoothly launched a console right when Playstation2 were selling like hot cakes. The XBOX was introduced as a slap on Sony’s face with high speed gaming, better visuals and its own interacive XBOX Live which allows users to share scores and more game stuff online.Launching XBOX 360 was a smart move, when Sony was still deciding the number of processors to be used in the new Console.XBOX360 is now selling at $349.99

Nintendo fighting all the odds with its meagre small console entered the race much late by launching Wii (pronounced V) with a different perspective of gaming. It wasn’t about processors working very fast or death defying graphics, but made it real simple with easy gameplay techniques.Nintendo created a different genre of players who like to play games with reality at its best. While Sony and Microsoft were already out with the best possible joystick, Nintendo created a easy to use joystick which was user friendly.Though the “remote control” like joystick had earlier bad critic reviews, but later the fact that this joystick didn’t need brains to learn to use people started buying these consoles rapidly.Wii sells at $249.99(lowest amongst all).

Its is now predicted that 2008 would be a great year for Nintendo as the sales would touch 30 million units from 18.2million units last year 2007.Microsoft’s XBOX 360 is expected to give 25 million units while Sony lags behind by having just 10million units sold last year 2007.Its just common sense why Nintendo would take the Console war lead, with easy joysticks which respond to hand gestures and real gameplay….all this in one low cost console..Phew!! why shouldn’t it sell. But matter the situation might change till year 2010.

2010 might be a year for Sony as gamers as always would love high end graphics with the trusted name of Sony and great games coming out.Till then Nintendo and Microsoft can enjoy their part of joy and success with their consoles winning at the charts.

Till then Happy Gaming!!!

Don’t rub your eyes read it carefully. ATI pre-owned by AMD has manufactured and introduced ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 Graphics which is supposed to break all the barriers of gaming graphics till date. This isn’t an enormous one but is still supposed to be the fastest graphic card till date.

This graphic card is supposed to have the best processing power AMD’s GPUs have ever produced, its much faster, more performance, and give twice the performance per watt as compared to older GPUs. This has definitely given AMD/ATI good lead. But I fear this lead won’t last until NVIDIA launches the 9 series graphic cards which support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1 to be released in the lunar year of February.

The company has kept all the gaming addicts at hold with it soon to be launched high-end D9E, the first of the 9 series which is supposed to be 33% faster than the present high-end 8800 Ultra. The D9E would boost the graphics benchmark and might give a run for Crysis with it 65nm fabrication technology. The company will also launch mid-range 55nm GeForce 9 family product named D9P in June 2008.

Till then let ATI steal the show and have some fame and honor in the gaming industry.

PEACE.
