To everyone’s surprise, Google has released the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Source code through the Android Open Source Project ( ASOP ) ahead of the release of their flagship device ( Galaxy Nexus ) which is launching 17th November.

This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build target named “full_maguro” that you can use to build a system image for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come later.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich is designed to run on tablets as well as smartphones thus it becomes a successor to Honeycomb OS which was designed specially for tablets as well as big update for Gingerbread ( the earlier smartphone Android version )

Honeycomb’s source code was never released to public so this would be Google’s first open source tablet OS.

This API release is focused mainly on public data only which would help the apps retrieve public posts and public profile data only.

This is just the start and many App developers seem to be very excited about the API release, most believe Google+ has the potential to challenge Facebook and catch up.

We have seen various workarounds to get your photos from various sources to Google Plus. Those hacks are excellent but the problem is you need to spend time following those simple steps, you need to channel your brain to make those things work for you, that might put many people off.

So here we are with a simple App that could help you import all your photos from Facebook, Instagram, Flickr and Photobucket ( eh! ) to Google Plus in few secs. Everything happens in cloud so it doesn’t affect your bandwidth or data usage.
Check the demo video below.

Google Plus Photo Importer App, allows you to add photos right to your Google+ profile from Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and Photobucket instantly. You can add up to 100 photos at a time in less than a minute. The App allows you to choose each photo or albums and retains its original metadata, title and description.

All the photo importing is done in cloud, so the process is extremely fast and the best part, it doesn’t eat up your bandwidth.

Google Plus is riding the high wave of social networking with over 25 million users, however most of your photos are still scattered across the web. Bring them all together into your new Google Plus profile with Google Plus Photo Importer by Dropico Mobile.

There are few things which make Google+ less usable than Facebook when it comes to complete social experience. Google+ is still dubbed as a ‘project’ and being tested with all the early adopters, every week we see some or the other changes. And these changes are usually shared by developers over a long Google+ post or a video talking about those changes/updates.
This time its huge, as huge as we have an official announcement on the Official Google Blog : Games in Google+

Unlink Facebook Apps, these games look a bit refreshing and as Google says “Games in Google+ are there when you want them and gone when you don’t.”

Games are being rolled out slowly to everyone. So wait for your turn.

Read more about the announcement on the Official Google Blog

UPDATE : Self explanatory info graphics added below

With Chrome updating almost every 5-6 weeks, Mozilla recently had announced their ambitious roadmap which ends with the stable release of Firefox 7 by the end 2011. To regulate the releases and follow the roadmap Mozilla introduced Aurora channel aka dev channel.

Previously, Mozilla followed this cycle. Nightly Build > Beta Build > Release Candidate > Final Release. They named some nightly releases as Minefield which were the pre-beta releases and highly unstable giving the impression that the Beta build are much stable which wasn’t the case. To sort out this confusion and regulate the way we see Firefox releases, Mozilla introduced Aurora channel, the pre-Beta but post-nightly release.

So here is the simple breakdown of all the builds,
Nightly > Aurora > Beta > Final

Still confused? After the jump, read along to understand which build is good for you and choose wisely.

Nightly Build : Highly unstable and testing purpose only. Consider these builds as the primal builds of the final product. You won’t get much support or bug fixes/patches/updates for these builds. Use these at your own risk as these might crash a lot if you use your Firefox with a lot of add-ons. The features are not even tested by the Mozilla QA team in these builds.

Aurora Channel : This channel can be dubbed as the developer release of the final product, this is the pre-beta phase, if you like testing and are a Firefox enthusiast this might be useful for you. Add-on developers would benefit a lot from this build.

Beta : Much stable version of the final release, if you really can’t wait and want to experience the next firefox browser, this should be it. It’s not only stable but frequent updates might help you understand how Mozilla has sped up the Firefox development.

And then is the Release cycle which includes the Release candidate and the Final version.

If you are interested in understanding the Firefox releases do read this blog post ‘Every Six Weeks‘ which practically tells you how and why firefox has sped up the releases and a new version can be expected every 6 weeks now.

I like the way all these are differentiate, even you have different logos for all the builds, this way you are always aware of the version you are using. Whereas in Google Chrome apart from the blue Chrome you are clueless being in the dev channel.

Update :
These infographics should help you understand the different builds properly.

Worldwide Browser Statistics Update : ( July 2011 )

Chrome just broke the 20% mark.
Firefox has fallen from the stable 30% share to 28.5%
IE still has the most market share of 43%.

Google announced that they are going to cut the cord for Google Toolbar for Firefox 5 and newer versions. This step of discontinuing the most used toolbar on Firefox is a bit of a shock than surprise. Taking effect from now, the toolbar would support the Firefox 4 version but won’t be supported by Firefox 5 onwards.

It won’t have any effect on Firefox 4 and would work as it does. But might be incompatible for the newer Firefox versions. ( Am using Google Toolbar on Firefox 6 and it’s still working fine, no bugs or incompatibility as of now )

The major reason of this shocking announcement being the advancements in the browser development. As most of the google toolbar features are now integrated in the browser itself the google toolbar functions seem redundant.

Official announcement says

First of all, we’d like to thank all of our loyal users of Google Toolbar for Firefox. We deeply appreciate all of the feedback over the years that helped to make the product so useful. As we all know, over the past few years, there has been a tremendous amount of innovation in the browser space. For Firefox users, many features that were once offered by Google Toolbar for Firefox are now already built right into the browswer. Therefore, while Google Toolbar for Firefox works on versions up to and including Firefox 4 only, it will not be supported on Firefox 5 and future versions. Please see our Help Center for additional details.

If you been the google toolbar user, you know many of the features which the toolbar provides, is still missing in the stock browser installation like translate, page rank, bookmarks, side-wiki etc.

Despite its support for Internet Explorer still alive, this might be the end of google toolbar. It never had a chrome version and Firefox users were the most google toolbar users.

Interestingly, Google has posted add-on suggestions for Firefox users who relied on the Google Toolbar in the past. The support page lists the individual features of the toolbar and links to add-ons that replicate them.

Now that almost everyone has started using Google+ as a common social networking medium sharing in Circles is gonna get very common.

We already covered how to port all your old Instagram photos to Google+ ( Picasa provides unlimited ish storage ) but what about your photos which you click via Instagram now?

Sooner or late this feature would come to Instagram but till then we can use this workaround.

There are actually two methods to do this, First lets cover the complicated method,

’Instagram > Dropbox > Picasa > Google +’ Method

This includes having a free/pro Dropbox account.
Lets get on it

Connect your Instagram Account to Dropbox - This feature would enable you to save all your instagram photos in your Dropbox Account as soon as you share them on your Instagram stream.

Download Picasa Desktop Application - Once installed.
Choose ‘Add a New Folder’ from Picasa menu and point it to the Dropbox folder that was just created by your earlier step.

Now you have to make sure that the Instagram folder you just selected stays synced all the time with Picasa.
For that go to Tools > Folder Manager , Choose the Instagram folder choose the option to ‘Scan Always‘ .

In the sidebar which has folders in the Picasa App, choose ‘Enable Sync‘ for that folder in the Share options.

And you are done, now share a photo on Instagram and it would sync to your Dropbox folder pushing it to your Picasa and eventually to your Google+ Profile.

IFTTT.com Method

For this you need a ifttt.com account ( beta phase )
We have a few invites to give as of now.

Go to your Picasa Web profile and create a new folder for your Instagram photos, lets name it Instagram. Add any photo to create that album.
Choose the Circles you want to share that folder with and share it on Google Plus

Go to the folder again and go to Photo Settings ( Gear icon on upper right corner ) Choose ‘Allow me to Upload Photos by email’ and enter the secret word which it would ask for. This should generate an email id. Copy that and keep it handy.

Login to your ifttt.com account. And setup a new task
If this : Selet Instagram > Authorize it > Any new Photo by you > Create Trigger >
then that : select Gmail action to Send an email to
To : Picasa Generated Email id
Subject : Instagram ( folder which you created in Picasa web album )
Body : Leave this blank
Attachement URL : {{Source URL}}

Add a description to define the task as you want and create the task.

And you are done, now share a photo on Instagram and it would pass through the ifttt tasks you created mailing it to picasa, eventually to your Google + Profile

If you want an invite to ifttt.com tweet this post and mention @tftb in the tweet, we would randomly choose lucky users and contact them for an invitation.

The much awaited and announced People Widget should now be available for everyone. So that’s why Google might be testing this new inbox style which comes with a welcome message
‘Try out all the new inbox styles to see what fits you best. You can always switch back if you change your mind’
This new Inbox basically has five new inboxes : Classic, Important first, Unread first, Starred first and Priority Inbox.

It does look a bit organized but the traditional inbox is comfortable to use.

Google Plus is still in its primitive stage. Not all your friends are on Google+ yet, so many a times you do need to update your Facebook status. So what you do is, visit facebook.com and update your status. Now there is a simple workaround for this.

Using the Facebook Mobile Update feature

Facebook provides each user with a unique email that they can use to update their status, photos, and everything by just using the provided email address for their account. The trick is simple, you get that email from Facebook and post something on your Google+ adding that email in the invite.

Lets see how its done.

- Login to your Facebook account and head to http://www.facebook.com/mobile/. Copy the auto generated email address . Which would be something like aoakLAO3@m.facebook.com

- Go to your Circles on Google+, add a new circle and add this email contact to it. Lets keep the circle’s name as ‘Update My Facebook’.
Once that is done, you are ready to go.

- Now post normally on Google+ but if you want to post it on Facebook make sure you include your new Facebook Circle to and check the box that says ‘Notify by email’.

Within few minutes your status would be updated.

You can update Twitter the similar way just get the twitter email to tweet.

For more info visit JustinBee

Update : There is a simpler but a bit slower method to tweet from Google Plus. Check this out.
